Kelp Fest Kick Off

Kelp Fest Kickoff Celebration is here!

Join us for a free, drop-in celebration of the season. Guests can enjoy kelp tastings, interactive demos, press local seaweeds, shop local vendors and bring home some kelp, and even a visit from the CT Sea Grant mobile seaweed lab. The whole family is invited to this 3 hour event held in the yard of the Yellow Farmhouse. No registration is needed - please note kelp tastings are limited to the first 50 guests so come early and come hungry!

Greenwave Business Planning Class: Virtual

This winter GreenWave is leading a 6-week online course titled "How to Start a Kelp Farm" for new and prospective ocean farmers. It's modeled off the beginning curriculum on our Hub, with each week covering a different topic from site evaluation, farm design, business planning, to leasing & permitting. In addition to reading the corresponding lessons on the Hub, students will also attend weekly 1-hour live sessions for Q&A with experts on each topic.

Earth Day 2020 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Earth Day movement. This event is part of a multi-day, community-wide celebration with Mystic Aquarium, Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, Olde Mistick Village, Mystic Chamber of Commerce, and other local partners. To celebrate 50 years of Earth Day, we will honor this special anniversary by connecting community members with organizations, groups, and students that work to promote the health of our waters from the Mystic River to Long Island Sound and beyond.

The Kendall foundation has partnered with Chartwells and the UMass school system to uplift the profile of seaweed and under-utilized fish as a staple in our diets.

Come learn more about eating sustainably and with the ecosystem. The event, sponsored by Kedall foundation and Chartwells, will be taking place at Eastern Connecticut State University, February 4 from 2pm-4pm in the Student Center. Try samples of dogfish nuggets with sides of waffle fries and kelp slaw .
